Beacon Status for Local Club!

In which sport did GB win its first ever team gold medal at the Olympics? Answer: Water Polo!

Name a Sheffield sport that has both male and female teams in the top flight of their sport?

Answer: Water Polo!

The rich diversity and high standard of the sports teams across Sheffield have contributed to our city often being referred to as the “City of Sport!”

City of Sheffield Water Polo Club is just one part of this proud reputation and as recognition of it’s great work has been granted “Beacon” club status by the Amateur Swimming Association. This makes Sheffield one of only 3 water polo clubs in the country to be awarded this accolade. Incidentally Sheffield’s Swimming and Diving clubs have also been awarded this status showing once again why Sheffield is quite rightly known as the “City of Sport”!

The club, an amalgamation of Sheffield Dolphins (one of the oldest water polo clubs in the country) and Sheffield Sharks, already boasts men’s and women’s teams in the top division of the National League as well as running a men’s team and 5 junior teams. Current players range from Four year old beginners to regional and national squad members. It also has a unique relationship with both of Sheffield’s Universities, sharing training and playing space at pond’s Forge.
